We warmly invite you to the workshop Archaeological Ceramics: from Theory to Practice, organised as part of the Mare Nostrum LAB Flagship Project.
This is not just a theoretical event but a unique opportunity for both students and academic teachers to get hands-on experience. Three speakers from Athens, specialists in laboratory research applied in pottery studies, will present different methods (e.g. petrographic and chemical analysis) and their use based on selected case studies. The workshop will be held stationary and will be conducted in English, except for the opening lecture, which is dedicated to the largest possible audience.
On May 13th-14th, the theoretical part, in the form of open lectures at the Auditorium Maximum, and a practical part in the Archaeological Museum will take place. During the latter, selected participants will have the opportunity to learn and try the prehistoric techniques of pottery making.
The second part, on May 15th-16th, will be focused on the presentation of the SEM analysis on ceramic samples and consultations with the guests at the Laboratory of Archaeometallurgy and Conservation of Archaeological Heritage of the Institute of Archaeology of the Jagiellonian University. We encourage you to familiarise yourself with the program and the information about our speakers. Registration is required for all parts of the workshop. If you are interested, please complete the Google form and submit it by April 25th.
